ZAZU is the project for the new ‘InComune’ subdivision of Castel San Pietro: the redevelopment of the area adjacent to the historical core, where a new quality public space relates with the existing historical urban fabric, bringing citizens to be the real protagonists of the scene.
The project envisages the definition of a new urban front along the cantonal road and at the same time an invitation and a seam towards what lies beyond this imaginary line: the centre of the municipality. The landscape was conceptually conceived as a gradient that develops through the design, so as to create a space that slowly changes from very natural to an increasingly urban environment as one approaches the building, until it merges with it within the courtyard. The desire is to create an accessible and liveable space for the community, which is able to bring wellbeing to people’s lives and quality to a valuable urban fabric, while also taking into consideration the importance of sustainable design development and increasing biodiversity within urban areas. The main resulting spaces are three: the park on the hill, the urban park and the courtyard.
